Spd article by NY extension article: "Nationally, corn acreage will actually be more than 8% lower than last year. This reality counters the expectation that corn would become the most widely planted crop for use in ethanol." ?!!

"I am not in favor of producing ethanol from corn or other food crops," da Silva said in his address to the conference. Corn ethanol, as produced in the U.S., is "shot up with subsidies and shielded behind tariff barriers."

I submit that the entire corn crop of the US is a very optimistic upper limit for the yield of dedicated crop land for ethanol. Thus, ethanol will, at best, replace a relatively small fraction of our gasoline usage.
