Mr. Khosla said plants to produce cellulosic ethanol stock will start coming online by the end of next year, though it will take 10 years before they start making enough to affect the price of oil. He mocks naysayers.

ZeaChem has come up with a method of making cellulosic ethanol via vinegar and hydrogen that results in ~40% more fuel per ton of wood chips (and less residue) than competing processes. By 2010 or so, the company hopes to be producing ethanol commercially

The Enerkem plant in Westbury, Canada will produce 1.5 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol from creosoted urban wood (end-of-life cycle power poles).
