So long as we use a significant amount of oil, regardless of where it's produced, we remain aboard the cost roller coaster. When the price of Middle Eastern oil soars, it takes the price of domestic crude along for the ride.

Ethanol producers face a huge challenge: ensuring they don't deplete water supplies in the Corn Belt. Delta T Corp. says it has created a system that will reduce consumption to just 1.5 gallons of water per gallon of ethanol.

Ethanol has helped corn to a new equilibrium price of $3.50, which will have impact on livestock production, competing crops, land values, etc. Ethanol production is also drawing livestock production closer to ethanol plants which produce DDGS.
